on their situation. a reporter will join us live later on. >>> in the meantime in this country, bp's broken well in the gulf of mexico is about to be permanently sealed. today bp officials pumped cement into the bottom of the well. once cement is set, a final pressure test will be conducted. if that's successful, the well will be officially declared dead. it ruptured five months ago causing the largest oil spill in u.s. history. joining us by phone, the u.s. coast guard's on scene incident commander, rear admiral. thanks so much for your time. give me an how relieved you are at this juncture because of this progress taking place today? >> fredricka, that's certainly good news the well is dead but certainly the operation lives on. we're actually 66 days since no oil was discharged from that well. we still have 600 miles of shoreline from florida to louisiana that have been impacted. in fact, today i have over 25,000 people out there doing very intense and high heat conditions cleanup along those 600 miles. that will continue for some period of time. another concern has been, where did the rest of

shot there, but we are expecting conditions to go downhill. now, what about the u.s.? are we going to see any impact here? you bet we are, the same we did with earl and danielle. we've got a high risk of rip currents here on the atlantic coast, particularly bad into the carolinas. another thing that we're keeping our eye on is that disturbance in the gulf of mexico. maybe a little moisture from karl got wrapped up in this, but this is an upper level disturbance. right now it doesn't have a circulation, so it's not a tropical storm or a tropical depression. it's a wave or cluster of thunderstorms. the concern here is not necessarily that it has much time to turn into a tropical storm, but it a es going to bring torrential downpours. the rain from houston toward the south and west. flood watches in effect here. 3 to 5 inches expected and texas has been hard hit with a couple of different tropical depressions and storms already in the last couple of weeks. so adding more insult to injury with all this moisture, we're going to likely see river flooding as well as flash flooding from so

breaking news. it's happening at sfo, a u.s. airplane flight number 432 has just been forced to make an emergency landing. that flight 432 was on its way from phoenix to sfo. we'll have pictures of this story as soon as we get them. >>> back to that deadly crash at happened in nevado today with a bus full of students and a cattle truck. tonight one boy is dead and many others are injured. live now in nevado with more, allie rasmus. >> reporter: many students here found out through texts and cell phone messages that one of their classmates had died and four others injured in this accident. they say it was fast enough to cause the driver to lose control as he tried to navigate this curve. the car swerved and ended up backwards into oncoming traffic. >> you see a deep gouge, a grind mark you could say in the path. >> reporter: the semi truck filled with cattle could not stop and swerved. a passenger in the backseat of this car died on impact. two others were air lifted with what paramedics described as severe trauma injuries. two students were conscious and were able to walk out. the dr
